Tomorrow I’ll make my World Cup debut at the men’s season opener in Sölden, Austria! The past few days have been spent in Sölden training on the “Ice Box”, named so because the sun never shines on that part of the training hill. Literally never. It is pretty good training though since they injected it, and I had a good couple of days there and built some confidence leading into the race!
We also had the opportunity to free ski on the race run today (which is the case in all WC tech races unless there are extenuating circumstances). I can now confirm that the hill is very, very steep! It breaks over faster and steeper than any hill I’ve ever seen, but is super fun to ski down. Hopefully the snow holds up somewhat but I’m not holding my breath. It’s going to be a battle!
If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the race there are two options I can find (both unfortunately at 4am EST..):
1. www.fromsport.com
2. www.universalsports.com but you must also install and run www.hotspotshield.com if you live in Canada.
It’s my first World Cup and I’m stoked to get the opportunity to race, especially in the Mecca of skiing that is Austria. I have nothing to lose so I’m just going to go out there and rip like I have been in training!
We are proud of you Dusty!
How cool to have an world cup athlete in our midst, and someone who is in the big show early in your career with lots of future ahead of you !
We wish you the best and we want encourage you to optimize your opportunities, stay healthy and to show as many as possible nothing but your ass and your elbows!

Heh Dustin – it’s all part of the training; including us in NA getting up early to watch 🙂
